After Hours by Design: March 8, 2023

Please join us and local artist, designer, and entrepreneur, Joel Loosli, at The Cove AK followed by Simon & Seafort's for some casual design chat and insight on the process of going from pencil to apparel. Recently, you may have noticed his work submitted (and awarded) in The BIG One 2022 and the Trend Alaska Fashion Show.

Joel Loosli - designer bio

I am an Alaskan-born designer living in Anchorage. I graduated with a degree in Visual Communications from the Art Institute of Seattle. I have been working as a designer for the past 20 years. My Alaskan-themed apparel company, AK Clothing Company (formerly known as Claimjumper AK) has recently opened a store front in the Peterson Tower in downtown Anchorage. It is in a space called The Cove and I share it with my best friend and fellow artist Bret Roberts. The Cove is home to both of our art, my apparel and accessories as well as his beautiful paintings. I try to create visually appealing designs that immediately grab your attention with use of color and composition then subtly reveal my clever placement of Alaska shapes or Alaskan themed elements. I want you to like what you are looking at first then realize it contains Alaskan elements. With so much of the Alaskan apparel out there seemingly aimed at the undiscerning tourist, I wanted to give Alaskans some options that were a bit more classy yet still allow you to show some of your state pride. I have also been expanding my oerings to feature items that do not use Alaskan elements. Hopefully you nd them as equally appealing. They are known as part of my Signature Series. Alaska is such an amazingly beautiful and unique place on the planet and I feel it only makes sense to create designs that strive to be equally dynamic. When I am feeling the need for inspiration I can easily take a look out my window or go for a walk/drive. How lucky am I? How lucky are we all?
