Do you have ideas for new events and programs for designers in Alaska? Do you just want to help? Time to step up! We are seeking people to be on our board and to sign up as volunteers. You can join or volunteer yourself, or nominate a friend. We’re looking for help with: event programming, lectures, workshops, shop talks, social media, sponsorship, membership, education – basically, everything it takes to continue to elevate design in Alaska. 

No previous experience is necessary, only enthusiasm and a willingness to work hard to make the cool stuff happen. We have something for everyone, from one-year and two-year board positions to one-time volunteer opportunities. If you aren’t sure which position would be the best fit or what to volunteer for, that’s okay too. We can help you find what fits. 

Why be on the board or volunteer? 

It may be the most rewarding experience you’ll have in your professional career. You’ll gain leadership skills and meet many wonderful and talented people on both the local and national level. 


Board members are expected to attend monthly board meetings, submit monthly status reports, organize and attend events, find and train your replacement when your term is up and contribute ideas for events that further our mission. 

Volunteers are expected to show up on time and be excited. AIGA is 100% volunteer-run, so we can’t do what we do without dedicated folks at events to man registration tables, set up, take down, and take care of details as they come up. 


To be eligible, you must be an active member of AIGA Alaska at the Supporting level or higher and must be good stewards of AIGA’s Standards of Professional Practice.

Other Requirements:

  • Attend a once a month board meeting on the third Wednesday of each month
  • Attend the Board Retreat
  • Have ~3+ hours per week to dedicate to the position (this is flexible depending on time of year)
