Justin Kemerling Lecture: Making This Design Thing Matter

Monday, March 27 // 7–9 PM
Cyrano’s Theater, 411 D St, Anchorage, AK 99501

Working somewhere not known for design, running a small business, building a solid client list, AND making a difference. It’s a tall order. But it can be done. You can build a great design career and design for good.

As a designer, Justin Kemerling has focused on making his home Omaha, Nebraska beautiful. As an activist and collaborator, he works primarily with community organizations, political campaigns, and changemaking startups in need of branding, graphic design, web design, and art direction to move people to action and get good things done.

At Making This Design Thing Matter, Justin will share how firmly established principles for your work can lead to projects you are passionate about - and empower your community. And empowerment can lead to change. And change is how you make this design thing matter.

Seats are limited.

Sorry, tickets are not refundable.

Justin’s artwork has been exhibited in New York City, Los Angeles, Washington D.C., and regularly in Omaha. His poster design has been published in several design books including Design for Obama, 100 Days of Active Resistance, and Green Patriot Posters, which is now part of the permanent collection at the RISD Museum in Rhode Island. He has presented to design organizations, student groups, and startups about working as an independent designer, the importance of design principles for your work, and the value of design for nonprofits and companies. Justin is a co-founder of a small co-working space called Round and Round in Omaha’s historic Dundee and he serves on the board of directors for Design Alliance Omaha. He is an active member of AIGA Nebraska.
